This report is the sustainability and climate change component of the Gerringong to Bomaderry Environmental Impact Statement. It provides a useful overview of the type of climate change impacts that should be considered when designing roads.

Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Framework

The report contains the UK Highways Agency's Climate Change Adaptation Framework. Although a small number of transport-specific climate change risks are shown, this report focuses on the framework needed. Modeling Climate Change Impacts of Pavement Production and Construction

The 21st century is the century of urbanization. Along with rapid urbanization, the century is observing the biggest increase in the world's population in human history. As of 2006, the world human population reached 6.5 billion. Rapid global urbanization and explosive overall population increases generate high demand for new road networks. Paved surfaces can comprise up to 45% of land cover in urban regions of the United States and are designed with energy intensive products comprised of either Portland cement or petroleum-based asphalt (bitumen).

Stormwater, Impervious Surfaces and Climate Change in Queanbeyan: The Integrated Assessment of Clmate Change Impacts on Urban Settlements (IACCIUS) Project

This investigation examined changes in urban surfaces, including unconsolidated landscaping materials and change in impervious surface occurrence, in relation to increased drought and storm events, as well as implications for local drainage, stormwater and flooding. Increased water flows and movement of unconsolidated materials into the drainage systems may result from covering of previously grassed or garden areas as a response to drought, water restrictions, and other factors, and increased intense storm events predicted under conditions of climate change.

Impact of climate change on road infrastructure

This report on the potential impacts of climate change on Australia's road infrastructure is based on science from CSIRO models using IPCC A2 emissions scenario. As well as providing a discussion on climate change impacts this report also projects population change for Australian major cities based on climate change impacts.
