RCCCAP - Regional Councils Climate Change Adaptation Project

Risks and Impact Assessed 

Corporate risks to local councils and shared regional risks across the themes of sea level rise and storm surge, heatwave and bushfire, rainfall and flooding, and other risks such as hail.

Drivers for Adaptation Action 
Recognition by Regional Councils Climate Change Initiative (representing 12 southern Tasmanian Councils) of the need for adaptation planning at a: • corporate level to engage councils, assist them to manage risks, identify adaptation actions for council assets and services, & inform communities; • regional level to provide for cooperative and collaborative action on shared climate risks & adaptation actions
Outcomes Achieved 

This pilot project has improved the capability and resilience of Tasmanian councils to manage the risks of climate change. Key outputs:

(i) Regional Councils Climate Change Adaptation Strategy 2013 -2017 Southern Tasmania

(ii) individual Corporate Climate Adaptation Plans for 12 southern councils,

(iii) Extension of RCCAP and producing adaptation plans for top 5 priority risks to Cradle Coast region 9 councils and Northern Tasmania Development 4 councils
