Hydro Tasmania: Response to Climate Change Program

Risks and Impact Assessed

Risk – projected changes to rainfall, subsequent runoff and river flows into dams for power generation.

Impacts - current upgrades to assets (dams and delivery systems), operational plans, sustainability plans are including the new information so that today’s actions prepares them for consequences of climate change.

Drivers for Adaptation Action
Need for right scale & type of climate change information to use in operational models (water runoff & hydropower generation models) to estimate likely climate change impact on hydro generation activities. Make wise current investments to ensure power generation is sustainable.
Outcomes Achieved

·       New hydrological modelling outputs relevant for Hydro Tasmania’s business operations & power generation models

·       Climate Change Framework to ensure a coordinated business response to manage risks & access opportunities. Encompasses Hydro’s internal work programs, policy position, external advocacy and communication, plans & research to facilitate  adaptation.

·      Partnerships with Climate Futures for Tasmania & CSIRO to improve in-house knowledge of impacts on business operations, & improve information for regulatory reporting & sustainability plans.
