Emergency Management Sector Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Queensland (EM-SAP)

Brisbane flooding

The Queensland Department of Environment and Science (DES) has engaged the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) to develop an Emergency Management Sector Adaptation Plan (EM-SAP) under the Queensland Climate Adaptation Strategy (Q-CAS) 2017-2030.  To develop the EM-SAP, QFES has partnered with the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility NCCARF). The plan was launched in Cairns on the 7th September 2018 by the Queensland Emergency Services Minister the Honourable Craig Crawford.

EM-SAP has been developed to support the sector to manage the risks associated with a changing climate, and to harness the opportunities provided by responding to the challenges. Led by the emergency management sector, the EM-SAP ensures relevance and the participation of sector stakeholders, encourages sector leadership, and promotes adaptation initiatives. The plan is built on existing disaster management arrangements and other state government planning in Queensland, to establish key directions for action and inform future planning by the sector in alignment with the Queensland Climate Adaptation Strategy (Q-CAS).
