Are you a future leader in the human dimensions of adaptation to climate change?

The Social, Economic and Institutional (SEI-) dimensions of climate adaptation network is part of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF). One of the aims of the SEI-network is to build a community of future leaders who are well informed about the human dimensions of climate change adaptation, through the Adaptation College.

The Adaptation College is an annual event, where 20 early career people from different sectors (civil society, government, research) come together to explore diverse social issues and places associated with climate change adaptation. The network will facilitate practical learning, but will also provide opportunities for the group to get to know and learn from each other in an interdisciplinary setting. The College cohort will remain the same for the four years, fostering a lasting network of future leaders in climate adaptation.

The Adaptation College cohort will attend the SEI-network workshop each year. The first workshop will be in Darwin, from November 25-27th 2009, and will focus on adaptation in Indigenous populations.

Apply to the Adaptation College

We are now calling for people to apply to join the college. The group will be selected from a competitive process, but with regard to ensuring diversity. Participants will be well balanced, skilled, and committed to their respective fields. We invite applications from Australian residents who are under 35 years of age, and are early in their careers. Applicants should apply through one of three broad sectors:

• non-governmental or community organisations, including Indigenous organisations
• research institutions
• local, State or Commonwealth Government agencies

 Funding is available for 14 participants in the Adaptation College. People from State and Federal Government agencies are expected to be funded by their employers.
