February 2009: Final National Adaptation Research Plan for Human Health now available
Senator The Hon. Penny Wong, Minister for Water and Climate Change has approved the National Adaptation Research Plan for Human Health.
This Plan is an important tool for coordinating climate change adaptation research related to human health across Australia. The plan identifies critical gaps in the information available to decision-makers in key vulnerable sectors and regions, sets national research priorities relevant to climate change adaptation and human health, and identifies science capacity that could be harnessed to conduct priority research.
The development of this Plan was led by the following drafting team:
- Professor Tony McMichael, Drafting Team Chair (Australian National University)
- Dr Haylee Weaver (Australian National University)
- Dr Helen Berry (Australian National University)
- Dr Paul Beggs (Macquarie University)
- Professor Bart Currie (Menzies School of Health Research)
- Dr John Higgins (Australian Government Department of Climate Change)
- Professor Brian Kelly (The University of Newcastle)
- Professor Jan McDonald (NCCARF)
- Dr Tharman Saverimuttu (Australian Government Department of Climate Change)
- Professor Shilu Tong (Queensland University of Technology)
Alongside the National Adaptation Research Plan, NCCARF is setting up an Adaptation Research Network for Human Health. Together, these initiatives will address climate change adaptation needs in the arena of human health. Networks are currently being established for all eight priority themes within NCCARF.
